Avid Racing have introduced their new machined idler gear set intended for use with the Team Associated RC10B7 1/10th 2WD buggy. These idler gears are machined out of self-lubricating plastic so they are perfectly true and allow the transmission to spin much more freely. Avid have tested these for a couple of months with amazing success.

The only time they could strip them was on a very high bite carpet track, with a direct drive, and the gear diff in the highest 3 position. The way the AE transmission is designed is that in the higher positions you are increasing the gear mesh gap and the removal of the slipper put a lot of strain on them when landing at full throttle. They were also tested on the same track in mod with a slipper and there were no issues.

I first got my name out there between 1998-2001 when I became a full factory driver for Team Losi / Trinity / Novak and traveled around the US doing what I love. In 2002, a partner and I opened a hobby shop with an indoor carpet track called Kinetix RC. Although the shop was sold to a larger company in town, my partner continued the growth of Kinetix RC through a battery company. Between 2003-2006 I raced professionally for RC AMERICA, XRAY, Hudy, Ko Propo, Proline, Rocket Science, Avid, Kinetix, Racer’s Edge, and Upgrade RC. I also assisted with the team management for Xray and RCA on the US side during this time which was great fun. From 2012-2015 I was a full factory driver for Team Associated (a lifelong dream) as well as the southern based team manager to assist Brent Thielke. Leaving AE was a very difficult decision but Avid was beginning to develop products for other manufacturers which required me to test other vehicles and being fair to AE it was a business decision to leave such a great team.
